Philosophy of Care for Nanaimo & Vancouver Island Pets

At Mahalo Veterinary Hospital in Nanaimo, our philosophy of care includes our commitment to patient and client care by offering veterinary medicine and supporting the community through enhanced animal and human health. We integrate all forms of medicine to provide traditional medicine, therapeutics, treatments and procedures balanced with holistic, naturopathic, and preventative care for your pet’s well-being.

Our philosophy of care is a multi-faceted approach. We take into consideration the risks, likelihoods of your outcome/prognosis, quality of life and the financial implications. Mahalo wants to help you make an educated and informed decision in regards to your pet’s health. Our goal is to provide a course of treatment that will provide a positive outcome for your pet and your family.

INTEGRATED MEDICINE APPROACHES

We understand that pet parents often want to minimize the use of vaccines, antibiotics, medications and invasive treatments.  While we practice primarily a traditional approach to medicine, we recognize the benefits of alternative approaches to a pet's standard of care.  Our recommendations on vaccinations are based on conversations with pet parents and risk assessments of the lifestyle and environment of your pet.  We employ cold laser therapy to assist with recovery and as a possible replacement to pain medication and anti-inflammatories for joint issues.  When the scope of holistic services requested are outside our service offering, we work collaboratively with holistic practitioners for an optimal approach. Our goal is to work with pet parents to identify a standard of care for their pet that reflects their values.

At Mahalo Veterinary Hospital, we believe in assisting the body's innate wisdom to heal wherever possible. We try our best to assist in the natural healing process by employing principles of naturopathy within the context of conventional medical practices.

Pet healthcare Plans

Health plans can be an important part of managing your pet’s healthcare. Whether you are just getting started with a puppy or kitten and looking for an all-inclusive vaccine/spay-neuter type program, have a geriatric pet that may require close monitoring or a pet with a chronic condition requiring specialized treatments, our health and wellness plan approach balances the Standard of Care you would like for your pet with the financial commitment required to allow you to choose the best approach to your pet’s healthcare.

Preventative Care

At Mahalo, the health of your animal is of the utmost importance to us. Our goal is to help prevent illness from happening to your pet in the first place. The earlier any disease, ailment, or dysfunction is detected in your pet, the more easily, completely, and affordably it can be managed or resolved. Preventative care is a critical aspect of preserving your pet's health, not only in the form of vaccinations or dental care but also through nutrition, environment, and early detection of disease through regularly-scheduled wellness exams. Call us to schedule your pet’s wellness exam today.
